Your child has been telling you for years that they want to model or be on tv. Or maybe total strangers come up to you and tell you how cute your child is and they should be a model. What now? What does a kids modeling agent look for in a child model?

A kids modeling agent will want to see your child's look. A lot of people have the idea that just because their child is tall or has long legs they should model. Actually that isn't true. Height for an adult model has always been important. But for kids height is not a factor.

A kids modeling agent will want to see your child's look. Getting a strong portfolio with images that show you off can make all the difference in getting a child modeling agents attention.

Typically height is not a key factor in signing with a child modeling agent. But they will need to know your height, weight, and clothing sizes.

Most child modeling agencies want to see unique features and of course beauty. Does your child have sapphire blue eyes and creamy white skin? 

Freckles and red hair?

Child modeling agencies also want kids who have a pleasant personality. In fact kids who are very outgoing typically do well. A fussy toddler will have a hard time in this industry but a happy kid who likes people and is gregarious and upbeat will often win the room. 

Child modeling agencies often want to see unique features.  Hazel or green eyes against dark skin can be a stand out look. Make sure to have photos or modeling headshots that capture the features well.


 Big afros, long blonde surfer looks, spunky bright eyed toddlers, happy babies and photogenic faces are always in demand.  Models can come in a variety of looks & sizes, but those with unusual features or stunning looks will always do well.

CHILD MODELING TIPS

 If your child wants to model or act, my first tip is to keep it fun. Just like any activity such as gymnastics, dance, baseball, etc., the activity should be fun and games for the child. Fun doesn't mean irresponsible. I'm just saying that you can keep it fun and not heavy or serious. For example be a bit playful and insouciant about an audition. Laugh and smile and throw in lots of encouragement and positive comments. Make some jokes and be silly. If you're having fun while doing something it usually goes better.  Child modeling should be fun! My next tip for child models is to let them make choices. Sometimes we as parents make all the decisions for our children (with good intent of course). But as a child model photographer in LA, I've observed that letting the child model give input on what they wear or how they pose makes them feel causative.
